Pixie's big adventure

Dad was having an adventure in the U.S, so Pixel had a big adventure at the lake.

Jana and I were having some issues in IA.usa dropping 2 and 3G mobile carrier frequencies to make room for 4 and 5G. Either a frequency shift to the new protocol, or dropped outright. Our 2012 era phones have been fine everywhere till the November 2019 trip when things went sour in IA only. We both upgraded to Nokia 4.2 and 7.1's for my 2020 March sewage rampage as a result. Both are Android One: android 9 and 10. Though web-ified, these images from the new phones are pretty sweet.

Kitty Containment

As Pixel got bigger, she was able to stretch across from the trees over to the top of the fence, walk its length, and subsequently over the house and to the neighbours via the carport etc...etc. To stop this I've installed a 20cm strip of polycarb along the face at the top of the fence line. Completely stopped her. Nowhere to stand. Kitty not keen to jump 3m directly to the ground (over the fence) simply to get out of her favorite playground. Mission accomplished.

The strip is literally invisible from a distance at certain angles. Here you can see Pix' up the tree, but not the clear guard.

Up close you can see the panel.

And it's visible with the sun behind you also.

Pix' constantly gets stuck in the fork of the left tree and cries to be rescued. She loooooooves being in the trees so I'd rather put up structure to encourage it than deny it. Giant pallet beam and some rope to the rescue. These beams have a shredded rubber layer for grip to the floor of shipping containers which makes a nice outdoor climbing surface.

Kitty Containment

We have some aggressive council legislation regarding cats. They cannot be out of the owners property in suburban areas. Time to kitty-proof the back yard/s.

I used 25mm electrical conduit for structure, clothes-line for tethered-framework, bird-netting as a barrier, and a bazillion cable-ties. Electrical crimp connectors were used on the clothes line to terminate cables with a nice ring terminal. Conduit mounting clips were used as hinges on the gate. (cheapest hinges EVER, and work great) All bending and joinery was done with a heat-gun as the molded joiners were disproportionately expensive compared to 4 meters of the conduit itself.

Many photos may not be particularly clear, or tell of the construction very well. It was a labor of obligation rather than love...

Pixel is really happy she can climb the trees without her harness though. :)
