The kayaks haven't gotten as much use as intended primarly because they're a huge nuisance to cart through the house between the carport and the back yard where they're stored out of the sun. Two gates, two internal house doors, and a cubby-house-door to cart them through is a LOT of work each way x 2 kayaks.
I finally built some light weight hangers from electrical conduit under the roof of the carport. The conduit is leftover from previous projects, is ridiculously cheap, and easily formed/shaped with a heat gun. Had I purchased new, this project would have cost $8. The kayaks now hang above head height and live right where I load them onto the roof racks of the car. Perfect.
