Bonzai Sweet Corn

Got motivated to finally put in a veggie garden patch in MARCH (mid-end of Autumn). Knowing chances were slim, we threw in some sweet corn. ~12 week growth = middle of winter harvest = bad.

Originally started to dig out a grid of 64 "pot plant" style holes in the ground for anything to grow...but then realised this was stupid and super labor intensive.
So grabbed some garbage timber from Dad's throw-away-pile and formed a tiny frame for 1/2 meter of soil. This grass is always on the edge of death, and is mostly formed of surface-creepers, so I didn't bother with any kind of weed covering underneath.

A shallow grave/garden appears.
A week after planting some sweet corn had germinated. (March 9th) We knew full well the depth of soil was a problem, and the absurd late planting was ...late... oh well.

April 3. We started getting cold weather after this, and guessed the roots would be hitting the clay surface of the old lawn about now. Let the Bonzai begin.
Then in early May, winds blew over 1/2 the corn and broke the stems. I threw in some bamboo stakes to support the survivors. You can see the growth during a full month has been negligible.
And now today on May 14, 8 weeks in, you can see our corn is showing tassels. Unsurprising. Cold weather, shallow soil. Somewhat amusing though :) Really curious to see if any cobs form, though we should see indicators and I don't see any...
...world's shortest corn...
June 6th. Approx 24-30 inch "tall" corn with spent tassels and zero silks/corn showing on any stalks. :D Perhaps we'll try planting at the appropriate time of year next time :P

Radial Arm Saw rebuild.

A few out of sequence shots of the circular saw rebuild. Massive undertaking since Dec 2015. I've only committed ~20mins here and there over the last 6months due to the insane tedium of the refurb. Every single bolt, every single part, absolutely 100% of everything was rusty. Not including bolts for the stand, everything was recoverable after a strip down, rust treatment, and repaint.

Wired up the motor today. Got the main carriage back onto the arm. Should have it fully reassembled by the end of the month. More pictures then.

The carriage actually had a fair amount of galvanic corrosion (steel and aluminium parts mixed )
Corrosion be-gone.
